EN – Ernie Mellegers (1964) studied History of Art at Leiden University and wrote his thesis on the influence of the car on the French architect Le Corbusier – published as 9097U2 Le Corbusier en de auto (1992). He lectures at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, thumb the Royal Academy of Fine Art and Technical University Delft (Industrial Design) on a wide range of subjects related to architecture, urbanism, typology and architectural theory. The focus of his research and publications has remained the influence of the machine, especially the car, on modern architecture and urbanism. He is known for his intensive lectures, exploring a vast knowledge, uncovering unexpected connections, not necessarily meant to be remembered in detail, but to paint the picture and to spark your thought. www.erniemellegers.com.
NL – Ernie Mellegers (1964) studeerde Kunstgeschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Leiden en schreef zijn thesis over de invloed van de auto op de Franse architect Le Corbusier – uitgegeven met de titel 9097U2 Le Corbusier en de auto (1992). Hij doceert in de Rotterdamse Academie van Bouwkunst, de Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten en de Technische Univesiteit van Delft (Industriele Vormgeving) over een brede waaier van onderwerpen verbonden aan architectuur, stedenbouw, typologie en architectuur theorie. De focus van zijn onderzoek en publicaties blijft de invloed van de machine, meer bepaald van de auto, op de moderne architectuur en stedenbouw. EN – Katarina Serulus (1988) is a researcher affiliated to the research group Henry van de Velde of the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp. At this university she defended her PhD Design & Politics: The Public Promotion of Industrial Design in Postwar Belgium (1950-1986) in 2016. Her research focuses on Belgian design policy after WWII. She contributed to the book 350 jaar architectuur in Antwerpen, van Academie tot Universiteit (2013) and the source guide Vormgevingserfgoed in Vlaanderen na 1945 (2016) and wrote exhibition and book reviews for Design Issues (MIT Press) and De Witte Raaf. Katarina Serulus is also curator of the exhibition 25 Biennials (2016) on the Interieur Biennale in Courtrai and Modern Design in Belgium (2017) in the Art and Design Atomium Museum (ADAM) in Brussels.
NL – Katarina Serulus (1988) is een onderzoekster verbonden aan de Henry van de Velde onderzoeksgroep binnen de Faculteit Ontwerpwetenschappen van de Universiteit Antwerpen. In 2016 verdedigde ze aan deze instelling haar proefschrift Design & Politics: The Public Promotion of Industrial Design in Postwar Belgium (1950-1986). Haar onderzoek focust zich op het naoorlogs designbeleid in België. Ze droeg bij aan het boek 350 jaar architectuur in Antwerpen, van Academie tot Universiteit (2013) en aan de bronnengids Vormgevingserfgoed in Vlaanderen na 1945 (2016) en schreef tentoonstellings- en boekrecensies voor Design Issues (MIT Press) en De Witte Raaf. Katarina Serulus is ook curator van de tentoonstellingen 25 Biennials (2016) op de Interieur Biennale in Kortrijk en Modern Design in Belgium (2017) in het Art and Design Atomium Museum (ADAM) te Brussel.
EN – Pierre Lhoas studied architecture at the Institut supérieur d’Architecture de l’Etat « La Cambre » (1990). From 1989 until 1992 Pierre Lhoas worked at Braun-Dispau Architects. Since 1994 he has been working at the Lhoas & Lhoas architecture office which he founded with Pablo Lhoas. The Brussels based and internationally active office has since been working in many fields of architecture and design. It has in particular an extensive experience in the field of renovation and transformation. Among the iconic creations are: the extension of the Palais des Beaux Arts in Charleroi, the renovation of the headquarters of the Parti Socialiste in Brussels, the Atomium Arts & Design Museum, a number of contemporary art galleries, many transformations of shops and establishments in Brussels and elsewhere in Europe and New York. Since 2013 Pierre Lhoas is also responsible for the interior architecture section at ENSAV, La Cambre. www.lhoas-lhoas.com.
