Urban Lunch Tue. 17.01.2023: Restoration of La Cité Moderne – Victor Bourgeois
CONFERNECE/DEBATE | Tue. 17.01.2023, 12:15-14:00 | Rue royale 2-4, Brussels
On Tuesday afternoon 17 January, Urban.brussels is organising ‘urban lunch #145’ focusing on the restoration of la Cité Moderne by architect Victor Bourgeois and invited the following speakers:
Iwan Strauven is the author of a recent monograph on the Belgian architect Victor Bourgeois (1897-1962) and will present the Cité Moderne (1922-1925) in the context of the career of this great modernist architect, close to R. Magritte and Le Corbusier.
Jeremy Brakel is an engineer-architect and co-founder of the architectural firm Architectures Parallèles, which is active in conservation-restoration. The process of restoring the facades of certain buildings in the Cité Moderne (“chaux-chanvre” coating) makes it possible to combine respect for the heritage with high and sustainable energy performance and to significantly improve the quality of 173 houses.
Sandrine Buelinckx is a member of Urban’s Cultural Heritage Department and will conclude by highlighting the fact that heritage and PEB are perfectly compatible objectives today.
