Renovation Good News: Alvar Aalto library Finlandia renovation awarded
“Finland´s most important architecture prize has been awarded to JKMM and Arkkitehdit NRT Oy for their renovation of the Aalto University campus library in Otaniemi (by Alvar Aalto, 1965).
Architects Arkkitehdit NRT Oy and interior architects JKMM won the Finlandia Prize for Architecture 2017 for their overhaul of the Harald Herlin Learning Centre, which was originally designed by the Finnish modernist architect Alvar Aalto, along with several other buildings on the campus.
As part of the renovation, which was carried out in 2016, elements of a traditional library have been retained but updated to suit the future-facing requirements of a science and technology university.”
