Glasgow Art School ‘will be saved’ after devastating fire (BBC News)

The Glasgow School of Art “will be saved” after it was gutted in a massive blaze, according to its director. Construction experts have suggested the Mackintosh building could be so badly damaged, it would have to be torn down.
But Prof Tom Inns told BBC Scotland that experts have carried out an initial survey and he confirmed the shell of the building is intact.”This building is not beyond saving – absolutely”, he said. “It will be saved in some form.” And he spoke of his conviction that the Mack should continue as a working art school, rather than a museum.

‘Heartbreaking’: fire guts Glasgow School of Art for second time (The Guardian)

The Glasgow School of Art has been devastated by a huge fire, only four years after parts of the building were destroyed by a smaller blaze.

More than 120 firefighters and 20 appliances were called to tackle the blaze, which began at about 11.15pm on Friday and spread to a neighbouring music venue, the O2 ABC.

The grade-A listed building appears to have been gutted by the fire and had its roof and upper floors destroyed. Firefighters were unable to enter the building because of fears its walls might collapse.
