In 1939, Liège celebrated the inauguration of the Albert Canal with an international exhibition dedicated to water.

The pavilion of the Reine Astrid playground is one of the few permanent buildings. Built by the architects of the Groupe L’Équerre, the small pavilion is intended to be a nursery. Located in the heart of the playground and sports area of the new Coronmeuse park, it synthesises the five points of a new architecture formulated by Le Corbusier in 1926. It is also intended as a moment of demonstration for the next CIAM that Falise and his colleagues wish to organize in Liège in 1939.
