Werdmuller Centre
Roelof Uytenbogaardt, capsule Cape Town, South Africa, 1975

DOCOMOMO South Africa calls for help because Werdmuller Centre in Cape Town is in danger. Heritage Western Cape was notified that the building’s owners (Old Mutual) want to tear it down and advised the undertaken of a Heritage Impact Assessment. Ashley Lillie (with Prof. Andre van Graan) wrote a draft for comment by interested and affected parties for the Heritage Impact Assessment, addressing the significance of the Werdmuller Centre as a Modernist architectural resource.

We attach it, encouraging the defense of this building!

Kantstraßengarage Berlin
by Hermann Zweigenthal, 1929

Docomomo Germany and Docomomo International are joining efforts and supports to protect this parking garage in Berlin from being demolished. The building’s owners want to tear it down, and they took the first step last month by applying to end its status as a landmark, granted in 1991. Their argument is that thestructure is weakening and that repairs would be too costly for the income thegarage generates.

Docomomo International and Docomomo Germany have supported the petition of the open letter to the owner; the Senate of Berlin and other institutions involved.
