I. DOCOMOMO International

DOCOMOMO International is the overall non-profit organization of the national chapters like DOCOMOMO Belgium.
DOCOMOMO International includes national/regional working parties (chapters) and members, in Europe, America, Asia, Oceania and Africa.

The DOCOMOMO International secretariat is presently hosted by the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands.

II. International Specialist Committees

DOCOMOMO has five International Specialist Committees comprised of specialists in modern architecture, theory and landscape.
They work under the supervision of DOCOMOMO International.

1. ISC/Registers
The  ISC/Registers was created to engage national/regional chapters in the documentation of modern buildings and sites. Its mission is the development of an inventory of modern architecture, including both outstanding individual buildings and ‘everyday’ examples.
Find the guidelines for the fiches at ISC/Registers.

2. ISC/Technology
The mission of the ISC/Technology is to promote documentation and conservation through studies of, and research into, technology, and into the material qualities of modern architecture. The committee organizes seminars; it also supports and participates in workshops related to the technology of modern buildings.

3. ISC/Urbanism+Landscape
The mission of the ISC/Urbanism+Landscape is to promote research, documentation and protection of modern ensembles and environments, as opposed to individual ‘setpiece’ monuments. In practice, our current work focuses almost exclusively on research and documentation. Download PDF

4. ISC/Education+Theoryinternational student workshop, Mexico City 2010
The ISC/Education+Theory organized the first DOCOMOMO International student workshop in Ataköy, Istanbul in 2006, during the 9th International Docomomo conference; it was followed by the second DOCOMOMOworkshop, focused on the Lijnbaan, Rotterdam, in 2008 (at the 10th International DOCOMOMO conference). The third workshop took place in Mexico in August 2010 during the 11th DOCOMOMO conference. The fourth workshop will take place in Espoo, Finland, in August 2012, at the 12th DOCOMOMO conference.

5. ISC/Interior Design
The ISC/Interior Design focus on Interior Design, an issue of major relevance for the Modern Movement and Modern Living. Interior Design gives us important spatial, ideological and aesthetic information necessary for a full awareness and experiencing of Modernity. The Modern Movement considered Interior Design as being in close relation with architecture and the other arts. This implied the demand for a new aesthetics in response to new technology and a need for a total work that embraces all the expressions into a unitary (and also utopian) environment for humanity. The Modern Interiors’ identity is characterized by a strong and coherent style which results from a unity between architecture, furniture, design, decorative arts, utilitarian objects, equipment, textiles and light.

III. Chapters Worldwide

At present, DOCOMOMO International includes 79 national/regional working parties (chapters) and more than 3,000 members, in Europe, Americas, Asia, Oceania and Africa. In their variety of cultures and experiences, the chapters represent the true richness of DOCOMOMO International. They provide insight into their respective countries’ activities towards preservation of the Modern Movement’s heritage and act as local advisory bodies.
