EEHB2018 – The 3rd International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings

After two successful conferences organised by Casas Históricas y Singulares and Ars Civilis in Madrid (2014) and the Belgian Building Research Institute in Brussels (2016) we are proud to announce the third International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings which will be held September 26th to 27th, 2018 in Visby, Sweden.

On the one hand, historic buildings stand for a considerable part of societal energy use. The pressure to reduce energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions is increasing. On the other hand the historic building stock is an important cultural and material resource that we need to manage carefully for the benefit of present and future generations. Thus we must find ways to balance the needs of building conservation and energy conservation. The new CEN European guidelines for improving the energy performance of historic buildings provide a systematic and interdisciplinary approach to find the best decisions in each individual case.  The 3rd International Conference on Energy Efficiency in Historic Buildings aims to support the multidisiciplinary knowledge base in all stages of such a decision process by presenting new knowledge and best practice on a wide range of topics.

The conference is organised jointly by the Swedish Energy Agency, Uppsala University and the Swedish National Heritage Board as part of their collaboration in the Swedish national research programme on energy efficiency in historic buildings: Spara och bevara* (www.sparaochbevara.se)

*Spara och bevara is Swedish for “Save and preserve” as in save energy and preserve historic buildings.
