A Plan to give the Farnsworth House a lift

The Farnsworth House, order design by Mies van der Rohe (1951), has suffered from multiple floods over the years due to its location. Last month a group of architects and preservationists met in Chicago to discuss three long-term options to preserve and protect the house from the Fox River, which has flooded the house three times.

Of the options which include moving the house to higher ground, placing the home on a mound built on the current site, or a compromise plan to construct a pit beneath the house and inserting hydraulic jacks to lift the house. A public meeting to discuss the plans was held in Chicago on May 29th.

More details of the three options can be found on the Chicago Tribune website.
